SAARC Special Training Program on Intellectual Property Right System held in Deajeon, Republic of Korea from September 3-18, 2009.-(9/23/2009)
A special training program on Intellectual Property Right System for SAARC countries was conducted by the Republic of Korea under their Cooperative Project to SAARC from September 3-18, 2009. The program was organized by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) together with the International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI) at Deajeon and Seoul, Republic of Korea.
A total of 13 participants from 8 SAARC countries participated in the training program. Mr. Kencho Peldon, Examiner from Intellectual Property Division, Ministry of Economic Affairs represented Royal Government of Bhutan at the training program.
The training program included numerous lectures on Republic of Korea’s experience in the development of intellectual property rights system and its management until now. A wide range of topics which are listed below were covered during the training program:
1. Korea Intellectual Property Office’s (KIPO) Core Projects and main activities
2. Development of Korean Patent System and the future thereof
3. Trademark protection system and recent development in South Korea
4. Understanding Korean Copyright Law
5. Design protection system in Korea
6. Technology Transfer and Valuing Royalty
7. Technology Transfer and Commercialization of IP in Korea
8. IP Automation and Successful Innovation and
9. Korean Culture and Language
The training program was supplemented by study visits and field trips to the following offices:
1. Korean Intellectual Property Office in Daejeon
2. Intellectual Property Tribunal Office and
3. Korea Patent Office in Daejeon
Field visits to following major multi-national companies were organized:
1. POSCO Steel Industries at Ulsan City and
2. Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Motors at Busan City
