Two-member mission from the World Intellectual Property Organization from June 3 to 9, 2009

A two-member mission from the (WIPO) visited Bhutan to assist Intellectual Property Division on the Global On-line Laws Database (GOLD) project proposed by WIPO. Ms. Jessamyn A. Honculada, Senior Legal Officer from the WIPO Office of Legal Counsel and Ms. Verinoque Orlando, Senior Administrative Assistant from the WIPO Office of Legal Counsel visited Bhutan from June 3 to 9, 2009.

The IP GOLD project was an initiative of the new Director General of WIPO. Bhutan was one among the two targeted pilot LDC countries chosen for this project. The aim of this project was to feature a complete collection of the LDCs’ IP-related laws in a coherent and updated manner on the WIPO database in the official language version of that country as well as in English. Out of this project the end result will be access to collection of laws on IP from all over the world. Currently it can be accessed from the WIPO’s website: http://www.wipo.int/clea/en/.

While in Bhutan, they met with each registry’s concerned officials of the Intellectual Property Division and discussed on each registry’s history, current status and programs in the pipeline. They also held meetings with the IP Agents, Officials from the Gross National Happiness Commission, the High Court, the Royal Institute of Management and the Royal Thimphu College.

A detailed report of this project will be submitted to the Division soon. The IP GOLD Database will be launched sometime in September, 2009.
