May 13, 2017, Gaeddu, Chukha: The Department of Intellectual Property (DoIP) conducted an awareness program on intellectual property to faculty and students of Gaeddu College of Business Studies (GCBS) on 13 May 2017.  The objective of the awareness program was (a) to sensitize faculty and students on the intellectual property system including policy and legal environment, (b) to inform on the importance of having a university policy on managing and using intellectual property for innovation, and (c) to encourage collaboration, partnership and alliances with the industry for joint research programs and commercialization of intellectual property. A total of 335 participants attended the awareness program.

On the sidelines, informal discussions were held between the GCBS and the DoIP on ways to assist the college in teaching of the IP module being currently offered to honours students and to formulate University IP policy in collaboration with the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) in the near future.

The DoIP team also travelled to Phuentsholing and met with representatives of the College of Science and Technology (CST) to update progress on the establishment of the Technology Information Support Center (TISC). In line with the on-going discussion with the CST, the DoIP is working to establish the TISC at the CST that will facilitate access to locally based, high quality scientific and technological information through global patent databases to innovators including students.
