Law students completed internship at the Department of Intellectual Property

Miss Ngawang Choden and Miss Tenzin Selden, both final year students of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law, Pangbisa, Paro completed the “Tenth-Semester Externship” program at the Department of Intellectual Property from 21 February to 04 June 2022. As per the norm of the Law School all students in their final semester must work a full-time Externship in a legal capacity, under the supervision of a lawyer for 14 weeks and y’re expected to be treated like first-year lawyers. 

                                                           

During the course of the Externship, the Department structured a program on intellectual property (IP) in order to achieve the educational and professional objectives of the students. The program comprised of conducting legal research of important IP subject matters, preparation and participation in hearing of IP cases, review of submissions, evidence and application of laws for IP opposition cases, preparation of draft decisions on IP cases, review of treaty proposal submissions, drafting legal documents, such as the full decisions, summary decisions, legal opinions, etc,. In addition, the students were engaged in practical learning relating to IP laws and subject matters including the registration processes, which could give them practical exposure beyond their academic learning.
