Usefulness of Industrial design

The basis of industrial design rests in making an article attractive and appealing. With these, the commercial value of the article increases in the market. In order to prevent unauthorized copying and imitation of the design by third parties, it is important to register the design, so as to give an exclusive right to the person or entity who registers.

When the designs are protected it assures a fair return on the investment. The protection of the designs promotes fair competition and honest trade practices, encourage creativity and thereby benefit consumers and the public at large. It also helps in a country’s economic development. For instance, the protection of industrial designs encourages creativity in the line of manufacturing and industry sector, traditional arts and crafts etc.

New and innovative designs are business assets that help in increasing the commercial value of a company and its product. It also promotes in defining the image of a company’s brand and its place in the market. Finally, the protection of industrial designs contributes in the export of national products.
